Flowers have always been a symbol of beauty. We grow them in our yards, even in pots in apartments to add beauty to our landscape. We grow them in public spaces to bring joy to the masses. We give them as tokens of esteem and appreciation. But when flowers have past their peak they still have qualities that can lift the spirits. Even in death the structure, texture and colours of a flower can still take your breath away. This common yellow Rudbeckia stands boldly in my wife’s garden, continuing to bring pleasure… and elicit gratitude.
