Monday marks the beginning of the lobster fishing season in this area. Our area holds the world’s largest lobster fishery, and we’re not talking the tasteless, clawless, warm water spiny lobsters, but the king of crustaceans, Homaridae, the North American Lobster! Tens of thousands of traps will be offloaded onto the docks and then carefully loaded onto the lobsterboats this weekend. At midnight the boats will start heading out into the Gulf of Maine and Bay of Fundy to start dropping the traps. It’s all hand on deck for “Dumping Day.” Even the schools close so the whole family can help.
