The Swamp Maple, Acer rubrum, also known as the Water or Soft Maple, is one of the first deciduous trees to turn colour in autumn… and what spectacular colour! Not to be confused with the large, majestic maples like the Rock or Sugar Maple, these trees grow in damp, low-lying areas. They are short-lived and never grow too tall. This example is on the Cedar Lake Road, at the foot of the lake, just before the Beaver River Road.
